FAQ

Q: How do I know what looks best on me?

A: The most important value of working with us is that we will guide you beyond what you like, and towards what looks best on you.

We use a variety of tools to help you understand what will look best on you and then design around your body type and your best features.

You don’t have to know exactly what you want or what you should wear…we will help you not only look your best, but also to understand why you look your best.

Q: What areas does Angelina Haole serve?

A: Within our day-to-day business, we serve the San Francisco Bay Area stretching from Napa County to Monterey County.

For clients outside of the Bay Area, we offer the following options:

Rush service – In this case, you visit the Bay Area for 5-7 days and remain accessible for fittings (held in your hotel for your convenience). Our studio focuses on your garment around the clock so as to maximize on your time in the area.  In these cases, we would focus on fitting and elements that require your presence. Depending on the details of your order, you would take your completed order with you or we would continue working after your departure and your garment would be shipped to you.

Travel – In instances where you cannot visit the Bay Area, a designer will visit you for fittings.  This is ideal for those who cannot spend 5-7 days away but who do not mind the additional travel expenses.  In such cases, our in-person meetings are kept to a minimum, and our initial consultation would take place by phone.

Q: Do I pay for my consultation?

A: Consultations are 100% complimentary.  There is never any obligation or commitment.  Consultations are our way of getting to know each other and deciding if the custom experience is right for you.

Q: How long will it take?

A: We pride ourselves on saying YES to our clients.  That means we will do our best to complete your order no matter how much time you have.

Less than one month: We can usually complete an order under tight time restrictions – but it may limit the fabrics and details that you have to choose from.

1-3 months: This is the ideal time frame for most orders.  Suits, gowns, dresses etc. can always be expected to be completed with this time frame.

6 months – 1 year: For wedding dresses, it is recommended (but not required) that you contact us as much as 6 months to 1 year in advance so that you can stretch out the experience, and we can take our time selecting the perfect fit, fabric, and couture accoutrement.

Q: How and when do I pay?

A: We accept all major credit cards, as well as personal checks. You will put down a deposit only after you have selected a design.  We usually take a 50% deposit, but that is a flexible detail that you can discuss with your designer.

Q: How much will it cost?

A: The cost of your garment has lots of variables, but all you really need to decide is what kind of budget you have to work with. We design your garment around your specific needs and your specific budget.  Many people assume that couture is out of their price range, but we tailor the product to the client – not the other way around.

The design, fabric, and other variables will be managed by our team to stay in line with your budget. If you are curious about working with us, but don’t know if the price ranges will work for you, feel free to schedule a phone consultation to talk in more detail.

Q: Can I have my fittings in my home or office?

A: Our service is designed around you, including our fitting process.  Fittings take place in your home, office, or other location in an area that is convenient to you.

Q: Can I order custom wardrobe basics?

A: We are best known for our work in evening and wedding gowns, but we also build custom wardrobes for many of our clients. We make suits, sport coats, blouses, dress shirts, skirts, pants, corsets, etc.

We understand the value of a garment that gets everything right.  The right fabric, fit, and details guarantee that with a custom made wardrobe, you’ll always have something to wear.

Q: Do you do alterations?

A: Yes, we do alterations and customizations on garments of all types for both men and women.

Q: Do you do dress "re-designs"?

A: Yes, we can transform the dress you have into the dress you want. There are a variety of reasons why you would want to re-use a gown or other garment.  Whether it’s your own dress that you want to give new life to, or it’s your mother’s dress that you want to modernize…we are up to the challenge!

Q: What does "couture" mean?

A: The literal definition of couture is the design and manufacture of fashionable clothes to a client’s specific requirements and measurements.

The cultural definition of haute couture is a little different.  While it may be used lightly, it is a word that carries great meaning and history.

It is our commitment to mastery and attention to detail that make us true couturiers. We do not simply employ dressmakers…we find and develop unique talents.  We seek out great teachers and bring them into our studio.  We collect knowledge and love for our craft and we stitch it into every garment.

When we refer to couture, we refer to history in the making, and the great feats of construction and embellishment that will live on for generations to come.

Q: Does it matter what size I am?

A: We welcome and dress all shapes and all sizes.
